Types of Rudraksha
Rudraksha Jabala Upanishad, Shiva Purana, Devi Purana and Padma Purana extol the seed of Elaeocarpus ganitrus. Faces from one to twenty-one are called mukhi.
The tree takes 15 to 18 years to mature. After drying, grooves run from apex to bottom, demarcating mukha. Authentic high-quality beads come from Indonesia and Nepal. Other Elaeocarpus seeds can look similar but are not as effective.

The five faces represent Pancha Brahma or Pancha Tattva. Confers health and peace.

Executive ability, competence, sciences, surgery; helps hysteria, fainting and blood-related disease.
Seven faced
Deity: Saptarshi & Maha Lakshmi
Confers plenty of money. Often kept in the cash box rather than worn.
Eight faced
Deity: Ganesha
Removes obstacles and confers success in all undertakings — Riddhi and Siddhi.
Nine faced
Deity: Shakti
Worn during Navratra. Confers energy that leads to wealth and social success.
Ten faced
Deity: Vishnu
Dasavatar Vishnu. Protects the family for generations and removes graha / lagna afflictions.
Eleven faced
Deity: Ekadasa Rudra / Hanuman
Wisdom, power, public speaking, success in battles, protection from accidents.
Twelve faced

Political power, headship of institutions, favour from government, intelligence and health.
Thirteen faced
